I have been accepted into Open Studios 2016, for the 8th year in the 8 years I have lived in Santa Cruz County.  Here is a link to my Open Studios page on my website: http://www.frankleonardphotography.com/open-studios-2016/ – For the roughly 300 artists who are accepted each year this is a unique opportunity to open our working studios to the public, so we can share not only our art, but also the processes we use in creating it.  Open Studios takes place the first three weekends in October.  The theme for my participation this year is one I have been developing over the past year, and which is still unfolding – Astro Photo Art.  It is a theme that honors the beauty of the female figure, the beauty of nature, and the wonders of the nightime skies, in a seamless connection between ourselves and the universe in which we live.  There will be more details to follow as October approaches.

3)  A New Photoset – “Fairy Lights”

In recent years, my female figure photography has moved more and more from color work to black and white.  In black and white all elements of the photograph become of equal value, giving the viewer the opportunity to greater appreciate tone and contrast, light and shadow, line and curve, figure and nature, texture and composition.  However, every once in a while there comes along that collection of photographs, which try as I might, just don’t make it in black and white.  The color, the warmth, and yes the sensuousness of the model beg to be presented in all their beauty.  So it is with this “Fairy Lights” photoset.  I share it with you with a continuing awe of the beauty of the female figure in all her sensuousness and beauty.  Here is a link to the photoset: http://frankleonard.com/fairy-lights/

4)  A Telescope and Observatory that is nearing completion.

All the pieces are now in place, and the telescope I built over 20 years ago has a new observatory home in our backyard.  The roofing and the painting of the observatory remain, but the telescope is now fully functional.  I have a few more days of balancing and aligning the telescope so that it’s setting circles can quickly help me find the celestial wonders I am planning to see and photograph.  The clock drive is functioning beautifully, keeping any target squarely in the middle of the eyepiece.  This is critical for astrophotography.  So, in the weeks and months ahead, it is my hope to share with you many new astronomy images, on their own, and incorporated into my “Astro Photo Art” body of work.  Stay tuned  :o)
.
That’s it for this month, good people.  I look forward to hopefully seeing you at The Loft for my opening tomorrow night!
.
Love,
.
Frank.
