Hello dear family, friends, and supporters of Frank Leonard Photography!
These days have been so full and exciting.
1) First, there is Open Studios, which for me begins this coming weekend, Oct 13th and 14th, from 11am to 5pm, at my gallery in Ben Lomond. It will continue on the following weekend, Oct 20th and 21st. This is the 10th anniversary of me being in Open Studios. My show this year is a retrospective on my lifetime as a photographer, including my 13 years as a nude figure photographer and my 10 years in Open Studios. Please join me as I celebrate my lifelong passion for photography and expression. I am hosting fellow artist Bob Hughes, who is a fantastic woodworker and tabletop box creator! Please come and visit us! We would be honored!
PLEASE NOTE: Due to a funeral in our family, I will not be present on the final Sunday of Open Studios, October 21st. In my stead will be my good friend, Kevin Osborn, a fellow photographer who will be able to represent me well. My sincere thanks to Kevin!
2) I just returned from a three day workshop at the Center for Photographic Art in Carmel. Fabulous! This workshop had nothing to do with equipment or techniques. Instead, it gave each of us present a chance to drop down into ourselves as people and as artists, becoming vulnerable enough to examine our lives in the presence and support of others, seeking to better discover our authentic and true voice. Who am I? What are my life experiences? Why do I create art? How does my art reflect who I am as a person and what is important to me? This was no regular workshop. I was drained at the end of each day, and came home with insights that will lead me in new directions. I am so grateful for having been there!
Art projects that we collaboratively created.
On the last day of the workshop, we visited the Weston Gallery. Here Kim Weston speaks to us about four generations of Weston photography.
Me reflected in one of my favorite Edward Weston photos (Tina Modotti) – Photo by Kevin Osborn.
3) Finally, for about the last month I have been converting my pickup truck into a popup camper. The only thing left to construct are the supports that will hold the roof in its raised position. Joyce and I already have fun plans for using it, including a trip into the Eastern Sierras later this month, a week at Esalen in November, and a trip to the Northwest next summer. I have had so much fun constructing this!
Well, good people that is it for this newsletter. I look forward to hopefully seeing you at my Open Studios this weekend or next!
With love and gratitude,
Frank Leonard Photography
